If the Prime Minister dies then the Crown Prince/Princess will briefly become Prime Minister until the next New Year’s Day on which there is a scheduled election.
If the Prime Minister becomes ill so that he/she cannot attend Parliament, then the Crown Prince/Princess will briefly become Prime Minister until he/she sufficiently recovers.
The Prime Minister may be removed from office if the whole of the Cabinet and Emperor vote for his/her removal. If that occurs, then the Crown Prince/Princess will briefly become Prime Minister until the next New Year’s Day on which there is a scheduled election, and the former Prime Minister will return to merely being the Representative of his/her constituency.
