The Minister of Defence is responsible for the funding and administration of the Ministry of Defence and Austenasian Army.

The Minister of Defence does not have the authority to issue orders to soldiers, although he does have the authority to devise a battle plan and order the Field Marshal to use it. [This law has been changed – see Act 140, Law 9]

The Field Marshal may only be demoted back to General if the Emperor, Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence vote for it. [This law has been changed – see Act 140, Law 9]

An officer (any soldier below the rank of Field Marshal and above that of Private) may only be demoted if his commanding officer, the Minister of Defence, and the noble that appointed the officer into that rank all vote for it. [This law has been changed – see Act 140, Law 9]

The Minister of Defence, Field Marshal and all officers above the rank of Sergeant have the power to (should they have the support of another soldier or government figure) immediately demote any soldier that refuses to follow reasonable orders. [This law has been changed – see Act 140, Law 9]

Platoons, battalions, regiments and divisions are all military units. If the commanding officer of a military unit wants the unit to be renamed, he/she must obtain the permission of the Minister of Defence and/or Field Marshal. [This law has been changed – see Act 140, Law 10]
