  1. The purpose of this Act is to establish the office of Speaker of the House of Representatives to preside over sessions of the House of Representatives.

  2. There shall be a presiding officer of the House of Representatives, to be termed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, or in short the Speaker of the House or the Speaker.

  3. The Speaker of the House shall have the sole authority to maintain order in the House of Representatives, to preside over debates, to recognize motions, to count votes on motions, and to declare a motion passed or failed.

  4. The Speaker of the House shall be elected by a majority vote of Representatives immediately following a local election and may be forced to resign by the Monarch or by a majority vote of the House of Representatives.

  5. The Speaker of the House, should he/she not have any higher style, shall be referred to as The Right Honourable. In the proceedings of the House of Representatives, regardless of higher styles, the Speaker of the House shall be referred to as Mr./Ms./Mrs. Speaker.
