Qualified physicians are hereby permitted (but do not have to if it is against their moral conscience) to use euthanasia to quickly and painlessly end the suffering of a terminally ill patient, if it is the wish of that patient (or if the patient cannot ask, the wish of the family). Euthanasia is not to be offered by a physician, but he/she is permitted to do it if it is asked for. [This law has been changed – see Act 74, Law 2]
A pregnancy can only be terminated if: [This law has been changed – see Act 114, Law 3]
The birth is likely to kill or inflict grave permanent injury to the mother.
The child is likely to be severely mentally or physically handicapped, and the pregnancy is before it’s 22nd week.
Neither the mother or father want to have the child, and the pregnancy is before it’s 10th week.
A termination of pregnancy can only be done if certified by two doctors.
The Government of Austenasia hereby condemns termination of pregnancy unless absolutely necessary – that is, within Law 2 of this same Act.
While termination of pregnancy is (under Act 29, Law 4, Paragraph R) murder, being the purposeful killing of another human, it is not illegal if performed under Law 2 of this same Act by a qualified doctor.
