Each year, the Prime Minister appoints two consuls to serve as the highest judiciary authorities of the Empire. They also get the honour of having years named them, a practice we inherited from the Roman Empire. For their roles as judges, the XV Dec. I 2012 (Criminal Sentences) act prescribes minimum and maximum durations of most crimes, and historically, their powers as judges had to be used only sparingly. Consuls exchange their duties each month, but the other Consul holds the power to veto the decision of the other Consul; the potential tie can be resolved by the House of Representatives.
