Mutual recognition between Austenasia and the Free Nation of New Athens was established on 13 September 2022, when the Empire reciprocated a recognition request New Athens had made that July, during a two-week window in which the Foreign Office temporarily lifted its usual policy against unsolicited diplomacy requests. Diplomatic relations were formalised with a treaty signed on 22 April 2024.
