The Imperial Geographical Society today conducted an expedition around the Surrey countryside.
The expedition of seven – consisting of three Austenasians and four Britons – set out from a car park north-west of the village of Westhumble, walking a circular route of just under six miles.

The first leg of the route took the expedition south-west through various farms and woodland, some of which was part of Ranmore Common (also visited by an IGS Expedition in 2012), where the expedition noted some large Roman snails and interesting examples of fungus growing on fallen trees, as well as some beautiful seas of bluebells.
The expedition then emerged on to the North Downs Way, heading east to St Barnabas Church Ranmore, where the group stopped for lunch.
Continuing north-east, the expedition visited Denbies Wine Estate before walking through Westhumble itself to arrive back at their starting point.
Despite rain having been forecast, the weather stayed dry with some sunny spells, and a good time was had by all.
