Lord Andrew Musgrave has been removed from office by Parliament in an unprecedented vote of no confidence.
Following a very public breakdown in the relationship between Musgrave and the Emperor, as previously reported, the situation reached a new low when the former declared he would no longer recognise the authority of the government and attempted to unlawfully dissolve Parliament.
Admitting that his actions were unconstitutional, Musgrave declared himself to be “Lord Protector”, unsuccessfully encouraged Crown Prince Shiro to claim the Throne, and spammed memes of Oliver Cromwell in the official government server.
The House of Representatives has now voted to remove Musgrave from office. His Deputy, Lord John Gordon – who yesterday joined other prominent politicians in calling on the former to resign – has now automatically succeeded as Prime Minister.
Andrew Musgrave has administered the territory of Corinium Terentium since 2013, and now holds power over said territory in opposition both to the Emperor and to the elected Parliament, albeit while claiming it in the name of an alternative Austenasian government. However, this “rival” administration has attracted no recognition from any other land claims.
The former Emperor, the now Lord Jonathan, has publicly reaffirmed the allegiance of the Imperial Capital of Wrythe and the House of Austen to Emperor Aggelos I and to Parliament.
This is the third time Lord Gordon has held office as head of government. He issued the following announcement upon taking office:
Friends and fellow citizens, I assume the premiership at a time of crisis for our nation. It is with sadness that Parliament has been forced to remove the former Prime Minister from office due to his unlawful actions and wilful treason.
Having now succeeded, as the new Prime Minister, I pledge to provide fresh leadership to our country. Diplomatic relations with old friends will be rebuilt, activity will be restored, and our nation will flourish once again. Corinium Terentium may be in a state of rebellion, but Andrew is one man, and he is in effect exiled. Needless to say, his claims have no legal merit and can safely be ignored. The rest of Austenasia stands united in loyalty to the constitutional order, to the Emperor and to Parliament.
Long live the Empire!
