Austenasia has successfully been approved by the Quorum of the Grand Unified Micronational as a provisional member, following a campaign by the Foreign Office to restore international ties severed by the Musgrave administration.

Austenasia had been present through the organisation for much of its history, becoming a member all the way back in 2009, and held near-continuous membership until 2024.

The Empire shares a long history with the organisation: the GUM negotiated the referendum ending the 2010 Austenasian Civil War; Austenasia assisted and co-chaired the 2019 GUM Summit in Birmingham with Adammia, where the signing of the Edgebaston Convention took place; and chaired the 2022 GUM Summit in London. Former Emperor Jonathan I has served six terms as Chair of the Grand Unified Micronational, and four as Vice Chair throughout the organisations history; Vera Caesarissa Romanorum served as GUM Vice-Chair in 2015 whilst representing the Austenasian delegation pre-New Virginian Independence, during her tenure as Prime Minister of Austenasia.

In late-2024 disgraced former-Prime Minister Andrew Musgrave illegally withdrew Austenasia from the organisation, amidst the GUM-Austenasia Conspiracy orchestrated by Musgrave without the knowledge of the Austenasian government. Since the deposition of Musgrave by Parliament in 2025 following a failed attempt to launch a coup against then-Emperor Aggelos, a growing movement to restore Austenasian membership in the organisation emerged. The current All Austenasia Party government promised to restore Austenasian membership to the organisation in its electoral manifesto at the last general election.

The Foreign Office submitted an application to rejoin the organisation in January, and the application was read by the Quorum of Delegates at the start of February.

Whilst the Quorum Minutes have not yet been published, it is publicly known that 55% of voting delegations voted to accept Austenasia as a provisional member, 30% voted to reject the application, and 15% chose to abstain. The results reflect scepticism raised by Austenasia’s former partners in the organisation in Austenasian venues, a large amount of which were directly affected by the behaviour of Musgrave in the years leading up to–and including the 2024-2025 MicroWiki Schism. Likewise, concerns pertaining to Austenasia’s historical policy to not legalise gay marriage until a recent edict by Emperor Alexander VI was also a known area of contention.

A previous memo from the Foreign Office announced Dame Willow Winchester and Lord Michael Griffin to served as a new delegation team to the organisation – however a last-minute alteration will see the Prime Minister, Crown Prince John head the delegation with Dame Willow Winchester instead.

The Foreign Office expects this to be the first announcement of many regarding its new and exciting ventures currently in the works, including a revival of the Association of British Micronations project headed by Adammia, Austenasia and Lundenwic.
