# How to become a citizen of Austenasia?

Ready to start your journey in building an Empire with us by acquiring citizenship in Austenasia? There are a few key steps to take, but none are difficult!

We just need to know whether you understand the concept of micronations and the nature of Austenasian sovereignty (or lack thereof).

This is done to avoid incidents where individuals sought to use *micronational passports* and other documents for illegitimate or illegal purposes, and to avoid dragging Austenasia into a very negative limelight and connotations like what [unfortunately happened to our friends in Ladonia in 2024](https://kfor.com/news/local/standoff-suspect-calls-news-4-during-police-standoff-claims-citizenship-of-ladonia/).

## Who should apply?

Apply if any of the following applies to you:

- you are interested in politics, history, or any adjacent social field,

- you want to become an active part of a [long-running micronation](https://austenasia.org/history/) with an active political and cultural scene,

- are interested in [Roman culture or customs](https://austenasia.org/imperium/), our [Christian heritage](https://austenasia.org/about-us/religion-in-austenasia/),

- you are eager to help us keep our institutions running for years to come, establish new institutions or improve them,

- you want to take part in [our political scene](https://austenasia.org/government-of-austenasia/), be a diplomat,

- you want to contribute as an artist, writer or any other creative endeavor where Austenasia inspires you to create more,

- you want to explore a quirky, niche hobby that combines aspects of many fields!

Of course, there are many other reasons to join a micronation, but Austenasia can pride itself in having a large community of involved citizens who are happy to welcome you, and if you are willing to actively contribute in any shape or form, appreciate you for doing so.

## Who should not apply?

But please, do not apply if:

- you do not fully accept that citizenship in Austenasia does not grant you any rights to immigrate to any of the host countries that contain Austenasian territory,

- you do not plan to [uphold our constitution](https://austenasia.org/legislation/austenasian-constitution/), civility in interactions and remaining respectful to our citizens,

- you plan to troll, subvert our institutions, harm our reputation or any similar actions,

- you belong to any organisations or hold beliefs that would cause harm to both Austenasia and our citizens by association with you, hold extremist political beliefs; this is unfortunately very vague, so if you have concerns please ask us for more details, but in general, we expect our citizens to be respectful to others and not target individuals or groups based on protected characteristics.

## What do you gain by being a citizen of Austenasia?

A community of nearly a thousand individuals running their own Empire, with a connection to soon-to-be 20 years of history. Any skill you have is useful, and we value creativity and your input. We are a still a small community, where it is quite easy to get your name out there and become an important part of the next 20 years of our existence.

## Why should I become a honorary subject first?

It has been a long tradition that honorary subjects have an easier path to citizenship, and fewer expectations from our side for activity or territorial contributions. You will have a chance to explore how we operate, and see if you like what you see or not.

## How do I apply for full citizenship?

We still recommend you establish yourself as a honorary subject first, so we can see that you are a trustworthy individual. However, please send us a message at our [official contact page](https://austenasia.org/about-us/contact/) or send us an e-mail at [austenasia1@gmail.com](mailto:austenasia1@gmail.com).
