# Westarctica

![Flag of Westarctica](https://austenasia.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/300px-11428177_10153468373362975_8814231695535085596_o.jpg)Austenasia first recognised the Grand Duchy of Westarctica as a sovereign state on 31 January 2009. Recognition was rescinded and altered several times over the following years, including a full withdrawal in September 2010 after the Westarctican government fell inactive. Austenasia restored recognition on 12 June 2015, and the two nations signed a treaty of mutual recognition and national co-operation on 17 June that year.

Austenasia also held relations with the Imperial Kingdom of Calsahara, later annexed by Westarctica as a colony, signing a treaty of mutual friendship with it in September 2010. Emperor Jonathan I met Westarctica's UK Consul, Dr Kim Bryan, at the 2019 GUM Birmingham Summit.
