After being formally invited to attend, high-level Austenasian officials attended the swearing in and inauguration of Scarlet Begonia, the new President of the Union of New Virginia.
The attendance signals the continuation of deepening ties between Austenasia and New Virginia. Following the ousting of the disgraced former Prime Minister Andrew Musgrave, the two nations have begun to repair their relationship, with Deputy Prime Minister Lord Green spearheading this objective in their role as Ambassador to New Virginia.
The inauguration was held in a voice call in the Union of New Virginia Discord server, and filmed by Adammic Online Broadcasting.
Alongside the new President Scarlet Begonia, the ceremony was organised by the esteemed Mother Hewitt, and attended by Comrade Simon White, Comrade Indy Bornstein and NV Deputy Prime Minister Andrew Snye. In the Austenasian delegation, Deputy Prime Minister Lord Green and Chief Ambassador Lord Valentinus attended. Representatives of Athabasca, Adammia, Esse, Northudankton and Saspearian were also in attendance. Unable to attend, Emperor Alexander sent a letter of congratulations to President Begonia.
Begonia’s rise to the role of President comes after years of dedication and work towards New Virginia’s history, from it’s origins as Austenasia’s crown jewel in North America, to the community hegemon that was the Commonwealth, and finally one of the finest examples of a microsocialist state that is the Union. Begonia was hugely influential to early New Virginian culture following the foundation of the new age Church of the Golden Road to devotion, and was one of the main leaders of legendary July Revolution of 2021. It was remarked that it was a surprise that Begonia had not ascended to the office earlier.
The ceremony began with speeches from Mother Hewitt on developments in New Virginia, and the work of President Begonia thus far in her long career in the Union. Begonia swore an oath to New Virginia and the Revolutionary Constitution, and representatives of present foreign delegations were invited to comment.
Lord Green issued a speech on behalf of Austenasia, wishing congratulations to President Begonia, and declaring Austenasia’s intent to continue building a relationship with New Virginia.
