Angus Diplomabear is making it’s way around the world one last time, before it finally returns home after almost fourteen years of travelling to micronations across the globe.

Diplomabear is an international ‘tour’ that initially began in the now-dissolved Federation of Egtavia all the way back in 2012.

Former MicroWiki owner Petya D’Égtavie set up the project in August 2012, using the postal system to send a teddy bear – Angus Diplomabear – to micronations around the world.

Diplomabear originally served as an Egtavian Ambassador through it’s first few years, but was later co-opted by the Grand Unified Micronational in 2016 to serve as a medium for the organisation’s aim to strengthen intermicronational diplomacy.

There have been many notable bumps on Diplomabear’s trip around the world: in 2013, the ‘Free Diplomabear’ campaign was launched following allegations that the Kingdom of Tiana was holding it hostage; it was recovered from the remnants of the dissolved Free State of Renasia in 2016 after being feared lost forever for two years; went AWOL in Romania in 2024 before being sent back by postal authorities; and triggered an international incident between Esse and Uberquiesenberg after it was detained in Marikasia County for travelling without a passport.

The project has become widely renowned in the MicroWiki Sector, and has spawned numerous spin-off projects such as the COVID-19-era Paper Diplomabear, the Grand Unified Micronational’s Diplomaseal, and the Cupertino Alliance’s Noted! Project.

D’Égtavie reached out to former Austenasian Emperor, Lord Jonathan of Sweetpea Valley, regarding the return of Diplomabear last year, the project by this time having far exceeded it’s initial scope and aims. Having arrived back in Austenasia a few weeks ago from Uberquiesenberg, Diplomabear is set to go on a few final adventures before he finally heads home.

Lord Jonathan travelled with Diplomabear to visit Paris, passing by numerous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, and even meeting up with Ciprian of Juclandia, the custodian of Romania’s oldest-known micronation. He is also set to visit Thailand in April with Lord Terry of Davidopia, before potentially returning home in May to finally rest up after years of travel.
